Pennington on Litviak

Reina Pennington has written about Litviak in a number of books and articles. Those interested in Litviak should start with Pennington’s book,
Wings, Women, & War: Soviet Airwomen in World War II Combat (University Press of Kansas, 2001). Litviak is mentioned throughout the book, and featured in Chapter 6.

"Stalin’s Falcons: The 586th Fighter Aviation Regiment."
MINERVA: Quarterly Report on Women and the Military XVIII, no. 3-4 (2000): 76-108, examines the history of the first regiment in which Litviak fought.

"Women and the Battle of Stalingrad" in
Russia: War, Peace and Diplomacy - Essays in Honour of John Erickson, (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 2005) features the experiences of Litviak and other female pilots at Stalingrad.

Pennington was the editor of the two-volume
Amazons to Fighter Pilots: A Biographical Dictionary of Military Women (Greenwood Press, 2003) and wrote the entry on Liliia Litviak for that work.
